Short post to mention a very simple texture, but that 'a nice:)
The texture in question is this:
... yes ok, you do not see almost anything, but trust me, lol. Basically adds a blur effect to the clear edge of your icon (may be the edge at the bottom or the top or side) and in the case of my example, 'a feeling of "undefined" at the margin of low' Image ...
If you want to do an experiment, you can also change from white to black ... also will have a particular dark ;-)
Another example with the same texture applied, however, is at the bottom than at the top:
